PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) is an engineering plastic with excellent performance, but pure PBT has certain performance limitations. Therefore, we often modify it through the following three methods! This effectively improves its mechanical properties, heat resistance, flame retardancy, and processing performance!
1. Reinforcement Modification
Adding glass fiber to PBT resin provides excellent bonding strength. Adding a certain amount of glass fiber to PBT resin not only maintains the resin's inherent advantages, such as chemical resistance and processability, but also significantly enhances its mechanical properties and overcomes the resin's notch sensitivity.
2.Flame Retardant Modification
PBT is a crystalline aromatic polyester with a UL94-HB flame retardancy rating. By adding flame retardants for flame retardancy modification, it reaches UL94-V0. Commonly used flame retardants include halogen flame retardants such as bromide, Sb2O3, phosphide, and chloride.
3. Blend Modification
The primary purpose of blending PBT with other polymers is to improve notched impact strength, mitigate warpage caused by shrinkage during molding, and enhance heat resistance. Blending is a common method of modification both domestically and internationally. Polymers used for PBT blend modification primarily include PC and PET. PC/PBT and PET/PBT alloys are primarily used in automotive, electronics, and power tools applications. The proportion of glass fiber added varies depending on the application.
